Welcome to a new adventure.
Truth be told I have no idea how this works. I'm not the most tech savvy human going around, but I love to write, I have years worth of poetry, stories and lessons to share, and the idea of creating my own little corner of the web in which to compile it all excites me. So yes this site is rather bare and boring at the moment, but I'm treating it as my new little project to nurture and see where it goes.
In the 'My Pursuits' section you will soon find recipes, poetry, race reports, gear reviews and resources for all the health related topics I will write about. Here, well I guess you will get glimpse into my inner world, past and present.
The start will be simple though. I am on a mission to raise $10,000 for Headspace Australia, an amazing organisation that has helped thousands of aussies like me to make their way through life with support and understanding. To do this I am part of a team called The Power to Push On in The Push Up Challenge, which involves doing 3128 push ups in the 21 days from Monday 8th July- Sunday 28th July. Why 3128? Because that's the number of lives lost to mental health issues in Australia in 2017.
Each day I will be sharing a day in the life of my story. Feel free to read the ones relevant to you, or to come along for the full ride. Also if you think anything I say may help others you know feel free to copy, share, whatever. This is about raising awareness and insights as much as it is funds.
Topics will include a day in the life of myself on the journey though depression, anxiety, panic attacks, public and private hospital inpatient stays, dissociative disorder, psychosis, binge eating disorder, anorexia and a few other aspects of mental illness such as medications, addiction, and treatment methods such as Electroconvulsive Therapy.
To follow along fun videos of the push ups, instagram is the place to be and the entire team (too many people to mention!) will be sharing their perspectives on what the push up challenge takes and means to them too.
For more information or to donate, head to http://www.thepushupchallenge.com.au/team/the-power-to-push-on . Thanks to one of my amazing sponsors Suunto, everyone that donates (provided you leave a name and email) goes in the draw to win one of the new Suunto 5's, no matter how much you contribute because every bit counts. More information on the watch at https://www.suunto.com/en-au/suunto-collections/suunto-5/ .
No idea how to end these posts, but thanks heaps for reading and I hope you enjoy/learn from a journey through my life, and the life of many others in still in similar situations fighting the battle. We may have been beaten down by life and circumstances beyond our control, but with a bit of help, more awareness, and the strength we all have inside us, Still We Rise.
Still We Rise.
