When I Close My Eyes

I’ve never been so thankful for the shoes upon my feet,
allowing my safe traverse, over rocks and mud and streams.

I’ve never been so grateful for the gear upon my back,
All my simple needs in a single bright red pack.

Accompanied by loved ones, whom I admire and respect,
The mountain wilderness before me has a balancing effect.

It’s a land of mountain majesty, of waterfalls and wind,
Where the creatures are a plenty, those feathered, furred and finned.

Here the lakes of blue and Grey, and the glaciers glistening white,
Are mirrored by the sky above where birds enjoy their flight.

Weary travellers walk the treacherous paths, upon each face a telling glow,
Of the the wonder of the chocolate peaks, with their soft dusting of snow.

The rolling greens atop the hills hide muddy trails and colourful flowers,
As we are pushed and pulled by incredible winds, witness to mother nature’s powers.

This journey is worth every ounce of effort; worth every ache, every step,
For the energy you absorb here, adds to your inner depth.

I thank you for our adventure, oh mighty Torres Del Paine,
Many times I close my eyes, I will return to you again.
